Standing out in a competitive job market

Van Lanschot Kempen is the oldest independent bank in the Netherlands, specialising in private banking, investment management and investment banking. In a competitive labour market, being an attractive employer remains a key pillar of the organisation.

To maintain a distinctive edge in the future, Van Lanschot Kempen wanted an expert review of its existing benefits package. The focus was on both the content of the package and the way in which the benefits are presented, both internally and externally.

Standing out in a competitive job market
To continue differentiating ourselves with our benefits, we commissioned a quick scan from NotSecondary. At Van Lanschot Kempen, we strive for an inclusive package that is relevant to all generations. That is why we offer, for example, a childcare budget for young parents and grandparent leave for colleagues who occasionally step in to look after their grandchildren. By having an external scan carried out by a specialised party like NotSecondary, we ensure that we leave no opportunity unexplored to offer an even better package in the future. NotSecondary has extensive market knowledge and has provided us with many interesting new insights. The comprehensive analysis and report we received are helping us to continue building a great and inclusive package!

Challenge:Van Lanschot Kempen wanted to gain insight into the extent to which their existing benefits package was still sufficiently distinctive compared to other employers in the market.

Although the organisation already offers a range of progressive benefits, there was a need to have the package assessed from an external, specialist perspective. This was not only about whether the current package is sufficiently distinctive, but also about which developments and trends may be relevant for the future.

The goal was to explore how the package can continue to meet the needs of a diverse workforce while also contributing to attracting and retaining talent.

Approach & advice:To address this challenge, we conducted a Benefits Scan.

As part of this analysis, we mapped and assessed the complete benefits package using our Benefits Scan model. We then benchmarked the package against market developments, trends, and examples from other employers.

In doing so, we examined:

  • the distinctive value of the current package;
  • alignment with different employee generations;
  • relevant trends and developments within benefits;
  • opportunities for further Optimisation;
  • ways to make the value of benefits more visible.

The findings were translated into concrete recommendations and insights that enable Van Lanschot Kempen to further develop their benefits policy.

Result:The Benefits Scan confirmed that Van Lanschot Kempen already has a strong and distinctive benefits package across a number of areas.

At the same time, the analysis yielded new insights into emerging trends, developments, and potential additions that can help keep the package future-proof.

In addition, recommendations were made regarding internal and external Communication, so that both current employees and prospective new colleagues gain a better understanding of the value of the total benefits offering.

As a result, Van Lanschot Kempen now has an independent analysis of the current situation as well as concrete tools to further develop the package and remain distinctive in a competitive labour market.

Total Benefits is the first Employee Benefits Intelligence Platform in the Netherlands. It helps organisations centralise, benchmark, manage and continuously optimise their employee benefits.

Unlike traditional HR software, Total Benefits is not focused on HR administration or payroll processing. Instead, it is designed to collect, enrich and apply knowledge, benchmark insights and practical expertise related to employee benefits.

At the core of the platform is Benefits Intelligence: the collection, enrichment and application of knowledge, benchmark information, market insights and technology related to employee benefits. This enables organisations to make better-informed decisions about their benefits strategy.

Within the platform you can combine, among other things:

  • the Benefits Database, containing more than 200 fully developed employee benefits, organised across 12 benefit themes;
  • benchmark information and practical market insights;
  • governance and compliance support;
  • optimisation workflows;
  • communication and implementation tools;
  • AI-powered support through the Benefits Assistant.

Total Benefits is not a one-time assessment or a standalone software tool. It is an intelligence platform that supports organisations in building, managing and continuously improving their employee benefits strategy.

As organisations continue to use the platform, they gain increasing insight into:

  • how their benefits compare with the market;
  • which benefits are most relevant to their workforce;
  • where optimisation opportunities exist;
  • which trends and developments are shaping the future of employee benefits.

The goal: helping organisations move from fragmented employee benefits towards better-informed decision-making and a future-proof benefits strategy.

The name Total Benefits is inspired by the well-known HR concept of Total Rewards: the complete value an employer offers employees, including compensation, benefits, development opportunities, company culture and the overall employee experience.

Since our platform focuses specifically on everything beyond base salary, we chose the name Total Benefits.

Within the platform, employee benefits are organised into 12 core benefit themes, including wellbeing, mobility, flexibility, sustainable employability and meaningful work. This creates greater structure, consistency and visibility across the entire employee benefits package.

Built on this central knowledge layer, organisations can not only manage their employee benefits, but also benchmark, optimise and make better-informed decisions for the future.

Benefits Intelligence is the process of collecting, enriching and applying knowledge, data and market insights related to employee benefits.

By combining consultancy expertise, benchmark information, practical market insights and technology, Total Benefits enables organisations to make better-informed decisions about their employee benefits strategy.
